___________________________________________________________________________________________ ARCHES and CANYONLANDS October 18-24, 2009 April 25-May 1, 2010 Location: Southeast Utah Southeast Utah offers some of the southwest’s most outstanding photographic opportunities. Arches National Park boasts the highest concentration of natural arches in the world, as well as a stunning display of sandstone fins, balanced rocks, and petrified sand dunes. These mystical formations, which are both delicate and massive, are located on a high plateau, which allows them to catch the earliest light of morning and the last light of evening. The reddish Entrada sandstone from which most of the formations are eroded glows with an almost unbelievable brightness in the low western sun.
We’ll photograph landmarks such as Landscape Arch, the world’s longest natural arch, Devil’s Garden, Double Arch, Garden of Eden, and Delicate Arch with the snow-covered La Sal Mountains in the background. We’ll also visit locations in Canyonlands National Park such as Green River Overlook and Mesa Arch, both of which offer incredible views of canyon country over a thousand feet below. Dead Horse Point State Park, a drive along the Colorado River to Fisher Towers, and visits to a couple of ancient rock-art sites are also on our list.
