GREAT SAND DUNES
NATIONAL PARK
Located in the San Louis Valley of Southwest Colorado, the Great
Sand Dunes cover over 20 squire miles, and are among the tallest
sand dunes in the world. Rising over 700 feet, and backed up against
14,000 ft. tall peaks of the Sangre de Christo Range of the Rocky
Mountains, this is truly a spectacular setting that provides unlimited
and unique photographic opportunities. Medano Creek, which flows
along the eastern edge of the dunes, provides an interesting and
unique foreground, and the wind creates constantly changing patterns
in the coral-colored sand. Tall Ponderosa Pines fill the valleys,
and huge Cottonwoods, whose leaves turn golden in the fall, line
the stream. Stately mule deer, which are accustomed to people and
easily photographed, add another aspect to the many photographic
opportunities found here.
Dates: September 16-18
