Ghost
Towns and Historic Districts of Southwest Colorado
Silverton, St Elmo, Red
Mountain, Carson, Animas Forks, Tin Cup, Summitville, Ashcroft,
Independence, Leadville. Today these towns retain much of the feel
and architecture, or remain only as ghost towns, of the glory days
when the mountains of southwest Colorado produced incredible fortunes
in gold and silver.

Beginning in Durango and passing through
the National Historic Districts of Silverton, Lake City, Creede and
Aspen before ending in Leadville, our route will take us through some
of the best ghost towns in the west, past tumbling waterfalls, mountain
lakes, meadows of wildflowers, forests of aspens and evergreens, over
Engineer, Cinnamon, Independence and Cottonwood passes, each
exceeding 12,000 feet in elevation, and through some of the most spectacular
scenery in North America. |

We'll
immerse ourselves in the history and feel of yesteryear as we visit
museums and stay in historic hotels such as the Grand Imperial in
Silverton and the Delaware Hotel in Leadville. Four-wheel drive
vehicles are required for this trip (we'll work together on transportation)
so be prepared for some adventure as well as outstanding photographic
opportunities.
